One Of A Kind
Ruger Vaquero - .38/40 and .41 Calibers
Turnbull Restorations and Larry Crow
This gun began life as a basic Ruger Vaquero, line bored to .38/40 - 41 Colt. Features of the finished pistol include custom cylinders by Competitive Edge Gun Works and high quality internal parts by Power Custom, a half-cock hammer, a free spin pawl, and an over-sized cylinder stop. The barrel is a Shilen XX that is a hand-lapped, match-grade quality blank, contoured to an octagon-shape with a nice taper. Also incorporated in the barrel are a custom-fabricated front sight and a first generation Colt ejector rod housing assembly. The Colt-style Power Custom grip frame is blended to the lines of the Ruger. Surrounding the grip frame is a classy set of elk horn grips, masterfully finished by Raj of Eagle Grips to look like ivory. Doug Turnbull of Turnbull Restoration, the master of restorations, provided the finish on this masterpiece. The icing on the cake, so to speak, is the exquisite Turnbull Restoration's finish that is a reproduction of the original Colt color-cased and charcoal-blue finish. This color-case and and beautiful nitre-blue finish is consistent with the finishes that Colt was originally known for. Larry Crow of Competitive Edge Gun Works, member of the American Pistolsmith Guild, assembled the gun. The handgun is signed by Larry Crow, and the Southern Missouri Rangers' seal is proudly displayed on the backstrap. Markings on the barrel include "Signature Outlaw Series MMII" and "Southern Missouri Rangers". This one of a kind revolver was featured in the 2002 issue of "Shoot" magazine with a full page article. The framed magazine comes with the gun.
